The paper is devoted to the analysis of the environmental and economic dimensions of the transition to green steel in Spain, with a focus on the case of Hydnum Steel in Puertollano. The study examines technological approaches to the decarbonization of the steel industry and analyzes their environmental potential, which lies in a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions and a decrease in dependence on fossil fuels. Particular attention is paid to the economic aspects of the transformation, including capital expenditures, dependence on energy prices, and the need for infrastructure development. It is determined that the transition to green steel creates new opportunities, such as the formation of a low-carbon products market, increased investment attractiveness, and the strengthening of Spain’s and its regions’ competitive positions. Based on the analysis of scientific and applied sources, it is established that Spain has significant potential for the development of green metallurgy due to its high share of renewable energy and an active hydrogen strategy. It is demonstrated that the project in Puertollano serves as a pilot model of industrial transformation, combining environmental goals, economic feasibility, and regional development. It is concluded that the successful implementation of the transition to green steel requires a comprehensive approach, including technological innovation, government support, and consideration of social aspects.
